Players, young players especially, don’t see the need to be able to juggle 100 times or be able to hit 10 brazilians back to the hands of a trainer in a row. Believe it or not, there is a huge difference between a player that can consistently hit the ball back to the hands of a trainer or juggle 150 times, as opposed to only 7 out of 10 times or 75 juggles. The main difference in the players, besides the obvious skill difference, is the attitude. Striving always to be better, and still being unsatisfied with a good result because the player wanted just a couple more touches, is what we teach and try to instill at Nouvoux Soccer Academy. The attitude and the realization that no player is ever the best they are going to be is what creates this attitude. We teach that a players touch, vision, balance can always become just a little bit better and, with that, they continue to train and become hungry for the next level.

But to be a humble and respectful soccer player in today’s game is something, that is unfortunately overlooked.

A soccer player with these qualities provides discipline, respect and humility in a team and proves to be more of a team player while still being an effective force on the team. This aspect of development that Nouvoux Soccer Academy provides is part of the complete program that we offer.

A player that does not respect others does not respect the game.

The most important thing for young soccer players to gain is confidence on the ball and the skills that instill that confidence. If young players are not being taught the correct techniques of the dribbling art form, then they aren’t getting much out of training. It is vital for players to receive this kind of instruction early in their career because a soccer player cannot pass the ball off if they can’t hold onto it in the first place. Creativity and skill on the ball is what fosters that passion for the game in other countries and it is what is missing in American soccer.

After a long conversation with an international soccer veteran yesterday we both came to the conclusion that American soccer has no style and I believe it is due to the lack of freedom while playing on the ball (there are many other things as well but individually this is a big problem).

With all this being said, however, players still need to learn the right times to dribble and pass. I am a huge advocate of the beautiful style that Barcelona plays with. Their passing, structure, movement off the ball, creativity, (I could go on) BUT, if you ask ANY of Barca’s players to dribble past a defender, they will smile and do it with a sparkle in their eye. That is the passion that is so infectious.

After a long season a good rest is needed to recuperate the body and mind but in order to stay at the top, the young athlete HAS to keep training. Getting extra touches on the ball now, when most other players are sitting on the couch during the school and soccer break, will be very beneficial by the time that tryouts and preseason come along. Players will stay sharp mentally and physically while not overdoing themselves. Training sessions at Nouvoux also cover a very rare topic that most academies do not; tactical awareness. This is a great subject for individuals to explore during the break with they can focus more on their own game so when the team gets back together, they will be even more of an asset when it comes to shape in defense, attack and overall understanding of positional roles on the field.
